Plant Accounting Manager

We are seeking an experienced Plant Accounting Manager to play a key role in the accounting and financial operations of a manufacturing facility. This is a highly visible, hands-on role with responsibility for inventory accounting and valuation, cost and operational accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and process improvement.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting a manufacturing or other inventory-intensive operation and understands the accounting behind physical inventory and operational performance. This role requires someone who can independently investigate discrepancies and variances, understand the operational drivers behind the numbers, and work closely with operations to improve accounting accuracy and processes.
This position follows a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of three days onsite each week to support plant operations and physical inventory activities.
What You'll Do:
- Own key accounting functions supporting the financial operations of a manufacturing facility.
- Oversee inventory accounting, valuation, reconciliations, adjustments, and physical inventory activities.
- Support cost and operational accounting activities, including analysis of inventory, cost, and operational variances.
- Own and review month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Investigate inventory and accounting discrepancies, identify root causes, and partner with operations to implement solutions.
- Partner closely with plant operations and other cross-functional teams to improve financial accuracy, inventory controls, and operational processes.
- Identify and implement accounting and process improvements that strengthen efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Support financial statement preparation, internal and external audits, and compliance with established accounting policies and controls.
Required:
- Strong accounting experience supporting a manufacturing, industrial, or other inventory-intensive operational environment.
- Hands-on experience with inventory accounting, valuation, reconciliation, and physical inventory.
- Experience with cost accounting and/or operational accounting.
- Demonstrated ownership of month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Experience investigating accounting or inventory discrepancies and identifying root causes.
- Experience working directly with operations or other non-finance stakeholders.
- ERP experience and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience leading, supervising, or reviewing the work of an accounting team.
- Manufacturing cost accounting experience, including standard costing, manufacturing variances, WIP, BOMs, PPV, or related costing activities.
- Experience supporting multi-site or multi-location operations.
- Experience with process improvement or continuous improvement initiatives.
